Born from the courage and foresight of its founder, Terzo Battazza, the company established itself in the world of road haulage in the early 1960s, with the aim of becoming a reference point for the Lecco mechanical steel district, guaranteeing transport and logistics solutions capable of satisfying the needs of its customers.

HISTORY

Led by the unceasing commitment of the founder’s six sons and daughters, still at the helm of the Group today, and the ability to adapt to the continuous transformations of the economic and industrial sector, the company has been able to evolve over time, constantly investing in new means and technologies and differentiating its offering according to a model that makes high specialization and recognized quality of service its competitive advantage.

With over sixty years of presence in the field, Battazza in 2018 surpassed the milestone of 50 years since the establishment as a Company. Now in its fourth generation, Battazza, supported by expert and qualified women and men, is today positioned on the market as an integrated and intermodal logistics operator, and continues to advance towards the future day after day with unchanged passion.

Terzo Battazza

The establishment in Lecco

Terzo Battazza, born in 1912, a farmer from Marche, region of central Italy, moved to Lecco with his wife Angela and six children, Piero, Tino, Angelo, Vittorio, Fernando and Elide, to try to build a better future for himself and his family. He started working with a company that collected solid urban waste, the Bracchi & Alessandri. When the company lost a big contract, he lost his job and decided to enter the world of transport.

The early days

The first transport vehicle bought by Terzo Battazza was a motor-truck, then, with the help of a business partner, he bought the first truck, served by a large number of bills to be disposed of at 50,000 ITL each. The trucking business began in service to the metalworking district of Lecco, in which Battazza began to make himself known, making his way in the industry with the help of his sons, a lot of work, tenacity, wisdom and a bit of luck.

Business planning and family

The real change for Battazza came in 1963, when Terzo liquidated the other partners and chose to continue the business with the sole resources of his family. On 21 October 1968, Autotrasporti Battazza di Battazza F. & C. SNC was established, with headquarters in Lecco. The company grew steadily, establishing itself as a reliable partner for the local industry and the large companies of those years.

New headquarters

The 70s, the years of oil shocks and strong economic and political tensions, were difficult for the Company, which nevertheless managed to resist the crisis, continuing to invest and expanding the range of services offered to the lifting sector. In these years Battazza moved its headquarters to Olginate, in the Capiate hamlet, in what is now the legal and operational headquarters of its activities.

Transformed into a joint stock company in 1981, for Battazza the 80s and 90s were decades of affirmation and real growth. The third generation entered, the company developed its activities throughout the national territory and specialized in exceptional and out-of-gauge transport. In 1991, Carlo Brambilla, historic concessionaire of the Lecco Maggianico railway yard, was acquired and Brambilla Scalo srl was established.

Rail-road intermodality

In the early years of the new millennium, Battazza firmly embraced the challenge of rail-road intermodality and logistics activities were developed, while the company consistently exceeded 10 million euros in turnover and completed its fleet with special equipment, becoming a transport operator capable of offering its customers increasingly targeted services, even in the context of large construction site movements.

Moving forward

Terzo Battazza, the founder, passed away in 2010 at the age of 97, leaving the task of carrying on his work to his children and grandchildren. Strong of over 60 years of experience, the Battazza group, now in its fourth generation, supported by expert and qualified women and men, is now on the market as an integrated and intermodal logistics operator, and continues to advance towards the future day after day with unchanged passion.
